Hello,

I own a 1962 RI American Vintage strat that has been modified with 10-14" radius, 6100 frets, callaham block, sperzel locking tuners, demeter on board fat boost and bypass button, overal tone and volume..

I have had a total of about 5 sets of pickups in the guitar...The stock 57/62 (noisy, no RW/RP), Fender Fat 50's (Noisy), Seymour Duncan SSL-5 custom staggered, neck, middle RW/RP (too dark) and SSL-3-Hot-Tapped-bridge, and now Antiquitey surfers neck and middle (middle pickup mounted in neck and neck in middle due to polarity differences with SSL-3), and the SSL-3 Hot, tapped in bridge-nice and fat sounding, just need quieter...Need something quieter and a little thicker sounding..The SSL-3 is a great bridge pickup..Just need a quieter guitar overall...

Players sounds I like: Yngwie neck and middle sounds, Eric Johnson, Mark Knopfler, Gilmour, Clapton, Hendrix, Blackmore, Jeff Beck, George Lynch, Gary Moore, SRV, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Santana, Ian Moore, Andy Timmons, Joe Stump...

I play in a modern rock band and use a Bogner XTC classic for my amp with some rack effects in parallel with a CAE mixer in the effects loop. We tune down 1/2 a step and ofter drop low string to C#... our sound is a cross btween Alice In chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Audioslave, STP, Pearl Jam with 80's type guitar flair, george lynch, vai, etc...

I am really in need of something quieter for stage work and am trying to decide which noisless pickups to go with in the guitar, since has onboard demter mid boost with bypass button..

I would like to try to find something that has aged covers to match the knobs, white nitro finish and mint green pickguard if possible...

I have a Jb Jr that I am thinking of putting in bridge? Want something with some humbucker heavy type rhythm sounds for the bridge...

In the neck and middle was thinking about the new classic stacks, but worried about how tall they are and how low can set in pickguard?

Also looking at the Dimarzio HS-2, HS-3, YJM, virtual vintage for neck and middle positions....and fastrack 2 or chopper for bridge...thoughts on these pickups?

Advice and recommendations?

Thanks,

Steve

The virtual vintage series are amazing pickups. They are an idealized form of single coil and are dead quiet. Probably the best single coil sound I have ever heard.

Re: Recommendations-noiseless single coils-SD or Dimarzio

Here's the best I've come across:

Seymour Duncan Classic stack plus

Fender Samarium Cobalt noiseless (haven't tried them yet but all I hear are great things)

Dimarzio now has the Area '58 and area '61 noiseless singles that are brand new and replaced some of the virtual vintage.

the dimarzio cruiser is also quite cool and sounds like a single coil.

I have YJM neck and middle and HS-3 in the bridge of a Malmsteen style strat that I put together. I have it wired with Master volume, tone and a passive mid-range control from Torres Engineering and run it thru my Analogman modded 250 preamp.  I personally love this setup and find it very versitle also. The virtual vintage series is very good also, but I perfer the YJM/HS3 combo.

I'm using same setup and I'm very happy with my tone. This setup is answering all your needs..:smokin:

Re: Recommendations-noiseless single coils-SD or Dimarzio

Thanks for the replies so far...I am still considering different pickup options...The Suhr SSC system is very appealing to me too...

Would the Hs-3 in neck, HS-2 middle, Tone zone-s in the bridge be a good combo with the demeter mid boost? Wondering if the HS-3 may have too much mids to use with the demeter mid boost?
I really need something hotter and more humbucker like in the bridge to do the heavy rock rhythm type stuff...

Fastrack, fastrack 2, chopper, cruiser, protrac, tone zone-s, super distortion-s

lil 59, lil screamin demon, jb jr....

So many pickups to choose from....

Steve

I would say Classic Stack plus neck and middle and your JB jr. in the bridge.

I had my tonezone s wired with a mid boost and did not like it as the tone zone s is bottom/mid heavy, you'll find yourself drowning in mid range. With the YJM/HS3 set up, it works very well allowing you more versitility.
