Recording Devices/Software

Re: Recording Devices/Software

I have the worst / most Spartan "recording" setup ever.

permanently borrowed EV dynamic cardiod vocal mic through a (permanently borrowed) XLR -> 1/4" plug cable into a radio shack 1/4" to 1/8" adapter into the front of my PC/Windows laptop into Audacity (free).

If you forget the computer, total cost to me was $3.99 for the 1/4" to 1/8" adapter.

Rhythm - Crunch

Solo - neck single coil - all cheap gear

Acoustic

You can hear some other electric songs at - they are more metal-ish
Soundclick

You can hear that it's recorded with a $4 setup, but it's not awful.

I'd look into a Line6 TonePort if you have $100-$200 to shell out.

Re: Recording Devices/Software

I don't have any clips to share but I do have a Line 6 Toneport UX2. You could probably find one used for $150, they go for $200 new.

Re: Recording Devices/Software

Cheap ?
Cheap is a $4 1/8 stereo cable from the headphone out of your existing multi effect into the line in on your sound card. With audacity of course. If I ever get any of the stuff I have rough now into a more polished form, I may spend some money on it. Of course for me that would be a max of about $100.
My setup works and sounds pretty good. I can put down 5-6 tracks of guitar / drums (built in drum machine) / bass and still have a very good sound quality.

Re: Recording Devices/Software

Dunno about the going rate for Lexicon Lambda, but I have one, and am very satisfied with it. Includes Cubase LE and Pantheon reverb processor.

Re: Recording Devices/Software

If you already have a PC, I use www.multitrackstudio.com pro version for $119. I think there is a cheaper version for ~$70. But I also recommend a full duplex soundcard like the M-Audio 2496 for $99 so you don't have latency problems. But there are other full duplex soundcards ... you may already have one.

Re: Recording Devices/Software

Wow just saw this
GUITAR LINK UCG102
from behringer.
suggested retail is $50, and it includes a version of Native Istruments software ( I used the NI trial version and the sound was awesome)
UCG102
Now it is behringer, so...........

Re: Recording Devices/Software

Thanks for the sondclips, it was very helpful. Were they all with a Dimebucker?

Rhythm - Crunch was with unknown Duncan Designed bridge humbucker in a Greg Bennett Ultramatic (great PRS knockoff!) through a Fender Ultimate Chorus

Solo - neck single coil - all cheap gear was with a Squier '51 through a Danelectro Nifty Fifty solid State amp

Acoustic was on a Guild D30 bld - one piece flame maple back and sides :smokin:

Soundclick stuff was half Jackson RR with Dimebucker and Full Shred neck, and half MIA Strat stock pickups, both through Fender U. C.
