Recording Interface also for live use

Title says it. I'm in the market for a usb/firewire recording interface. I would like to be able to use it live as well, running my guitar through virtual amps.

I have used a Toneport before, which has about a quarter second of delay between the struck note and what's heard.

What kind of specs should I be looking for to minimize the latency and get close to real-time performance?

Re: Recording Interface also for live use

Latency is more dependent on your computer and software, tbh.

Interfaces I've been able to get low-latency results with, though:
Apogee Ensemble
RME FF400
TC Konnekt 24D
M-Box 2

Try to shoot for firewire if possible, and remember to configure your OS for recording-type applications, if possible.

But still, buffer setting and computer specs will have the biggest effect on latency.

I did some playing around with my Toneport the other night and had latency issues when using it simply as a sound card; it was when I used Gearbox that the annoying delay kicked in.

Is buffer setting something I can manually adjust? If so, what adjustments should I be looking to make?
