Recording King/Blueridge guitars?

Yesterday I purchased a Blueridge BR-70 acoustic for a decent price off of ebay. I've heard nothin' but great things bout' em and decided i finally needed to have one. I talked to lucid about his and he called it a "martin killer" which gives me a good feeling, because I'd have to die and collect my own life insurance just to afford one of those.

Does anybody here own a blueridge guitar? What do you have to say about them? The same for recording king, because I might spring for one of those next.

Thanks all!

New? 400$-1,200$ for Blueridge, and i beleive Recording king gets alot more expensive, but they do banjos.

Look 'em up on maurysmusic. Alot of beautiful work.

Re: Recording King/Blueridge guitars?

I had a Blueridge BR143, which is a 000-size built from all solid woods. It was a superb instrument, I was very happy with it. The only reason I sold it was to buy a Guild GAD30, which is a similar instrument except the nut width is wider, which was something i needed.

All the Blueridges I've encountered have been great instruments, and would still be great at double the price (and I will say exactly the same thing about the Guild GAD series guitars too). Some of the top-of-the-range Blueridges look simply stunning.

Forum member Will S-T has a Recording King which i have seen and played, and it too is superb. Being as it's close to 2 a.m. here in Australia he probably won't see this thread until later in the day, but i'm sure he'll chime in and give you his opinions about it when he does.

Re: Recording King/Blueridge guitars?

I have a BR 163. It's a 000 size guitar. Solid Indian Rosewood back and sides and solid Sitka Spruce top. Bone nut and saddle! Great guitar for the money. Recommend them highly. http://www.maurysmusic.com/inc/sdetail/35940 Eastman also makes a great guitar for the money.

Yup, that's the same guitar I had except mine was the mahogany back and sides version. Both are available with a cutaway and pickup system too.

Re: Recording King/Blueridge guitars?

I have a Blueridge that is my Dad's. It's an older model from before they were very well known, its pretty much a D-18 copy and it sounds great! It covers all of my bluegrass needs and more. Lol

Re: Recording King/Blueridge guitars?

The shop where I worked c. 2004 used to be pretty much the only place in town that sold them.

They were our "good" acoustic. Then they showed up on the Internet, and we, as a small shop, were screwed.

I liked them a lot. Definitely not high end, but they are beautiful, play well, and sound good. The finishes are my least favorite part. Very plasticy.

Re: Recording King/Blueridge guitars?

Played a parlour model (0 size) once with mahogany back and sides - really nice, sweet and warm tones. The neck was a somewhat hard V, which I didn't like much, but overall it's an excellent fingerstyle guitar, very generous neck width too.

Re: Recording King/Blueridge guitars?

Yep, great guiatars for the money!

I've got the RD 227 which is all solid quality timbers, rosewood back and sides,
Sitka AA top, ebony board and bridge and 1 piece mahogony neck.

Very well made, real bone nut and saddle and great attention to finish and quality control and best of all she sounds like three times the value!

I've only played a few higher end Blueridge's in a shop and I'm amazed
at the price and quality you can grab a very good guitar for.

Tanglewood is another make to keep an eye out for, British company
and like the other brands mentioned all made in China.

$500 to $700 odd will get you a S/H top end model:beerchug:

Doesn't that model have a V neck? I bought an RO-227. Amazing sound but the neck just slightly annoyed me. Beautiful inlay work though!

Yeh and I love it, I'm a classical / flamenco guitar player since I was ten,
so thumb on the back of the neck is natural to me. Also means I can get
great LH grips whilst still resorting back to my normal technique.

The nut is nice and wide too being at 1 and 3/4" width so any fingerpicking style
is easy without cramping the fingering hand. I actually prefer my electric
guitar necks to be either flat and wide shredders or flat, wide and V back profiles
so my fingering hand can do what it wants, unencumbered.

1 and 5/8th nuts with a tight radius are only for country open chords IMHO!
NOTWITHSTANDING However! my Jap 52 RI Tele with 7 1/4" radius is my current
favourite guitar BUT I am struggling with the tightness of the neck width.

Re: Recording King/Blueridge guitars?

i have a recording king style O resonator. Recording king guitars are also produced under the names of Nashville and Johnson (that i know of). Yeah they are good resonators with a spin aluminium cone and a bell brass body. They definitely sound better than the offerings from epiphone and fender. Good bang for buck guitars.
