Recording questions from a complete newb.

I just want to record licks for fun, this isn't a serious project or anything, but what effect or what allows you to push the guitar sound back. What i mean is that when i record into Cubase for example the guitar is so in your face in front, how do you "push it back" or what allows you to do that.

(I record modeler into Lexicon thing, into my pc).

Re: Recording questions from a complete newb.

you might be getting a direct-recorded guitar sound which is kinda fake sounding and in your face. you might need to use some sort of a speaker emulator. if you're using one, then yes, reverb would help.

of course, if it's "up front" in a mix, you just bring down the level relative to whatever else is with it.

if you're mic'ing the amp - well, just back up the mic.

Yep, direct recorded. There is an amp simulator output on the back of it, might have to give it a shot.

I'll try adding some more reverb too.

Thanks guys.

Re: Recording questions from a complete newb.

I stumbled upon this link kinda recently...

It might be a little "in-depth" for an answer to your original question but it's a great read & filled with useful bits of knowledge...

Applies more towards miking up an amp as opposed to 'simulators' but well... a good bit applies to recording in general...

:D
