Recording software?

Is there a reliable recording software that is hopefully free? I have a Line 6 POD Studio UX2 and I can get... "meh" tones out of it, but I'd still like to start recording so I can work on songwriting and covering other songs.

Oh and...
Does anyone have experience with a UX2? I can't seem to get POD Farm 2.51 to work... PM me if you can help with this.

You can download Reaper for free and use it for a while. I think it just has a nag screen.

I thought the UX2 came with some LE versions of recording software(?). I remember when I had one it came with 3 or 4 discs...

Well... mine was an eBay deal. No peripherals and no CD's, just the UX2 for $115. I had cables and the software was free. Plus the guy "gifted" me the Metal Pack.

Audacity works fine for basic recording.
