recording: trying to "seperate" my multi guitar tracks

here's my problem. I'll record or have a rhythm track that sounds good. record a lead line that sounds good with it. when i play it back the two guitar tracks use the same frequencies and ruin the sound. This isn't a matter of picking the wrong scales or anything. I just can't get it so sound right when i record multi tracks. I've tried using one amp for the rhythm track and a differen't one for the lead track but that really didn't help anything.

what is the answer?! is panning the key? changing the eq settings? or is it something i am just missing completely.

thanks for any assistance you guys can give me because at the moment it really has me frustrated.

There are many things you can do to get the tracks to seperate.

First of all, I would recommend panning the rhythm guitars. This will help them to stand out.

As for any tonal shaping, I can't make any recommendations until I hear the tracks. Can you post a clip in TIPS + CLIPS?

Panning is huge to separating out thracks not just guitar tracks. Start there and then mess with the EQ to get the parts you want to stand out.

Are you multi tracking the rythm? Panning works very well. AI also play the same chords in different positions, sometimes with a capo. THis should help certain things stand out a bit.

yea i just recorded a rough guitar track andtried panning the rhythm over %30 to the right and lead track about %10 to the left. Made a huge difference. now the lead doesn't sound like like it's getting stomped on. also rolled the tone down a bit on the lead which also helped get it to where i wanted it.

i shoulda tried it first i guess.
