Recording your amp at home tips

There was a thread below that inspired this thread. I just wanted a place for budding home recordists to come and get some kid tips from the more experienced.

To start it off here's mine:

If you've got a problem recording in a lousy sound room try building a little shelter for your amp using foam couch cushions. It takes five cushions to build four walls and a roof. Position the amp so that it has a bit of space behind but a majority of the space in front. Place your mic on a small stand. I use a SM57. Another great mic for this is the E609 which can be draped over the top of the amp dangling from a mic cable.

This setup will definitely deaden the sound which can be a good thing for those struggling to get a decent sounding recording. I've had great results with this method.

What are some other tips?

Re: Recording your amp at home tips

My amp is in my living room which also happens to be my home theater, so any alterations as far as sound isolation is out of the question. I recently started recording too using a Senn e609 draped over the cab. It does a pretty good job of blocking out ambient noise. It sounds great and recordings are exactly the way I feel they should be.

I also have a home office that I use when recoridng acoustic. I close the door and I get surprising good room acoustics. The acoustic sound seems to sound better when reflected off the bare walls in this small room.
