Red Devil for neck position

I have a Parts-Tele that I have routed for a Strat middle & neck pickups. Presently, I'm Using Bill Lawernce, Bill & Becky, Wilde L-298-TL in the bridge position and L-298-S in the middle & neck positions.

I absolutely love the bridge pickup, I'm good with the middle pickup but to my ears, the neck pickup has mids that are a bit more scooped than I like. I'm looking at the Red Devil for the neck position as the tone chart has it pretty flat and the DCR is very close to the L-298-S.

I am primarily looking for a more Jazzy tone than what I am getting for Western Swing but will also be using it overdriven occasionally for Classic Rock. Would love to get some input from the good folks on this forum.

I can also highly recommend the SK Guitar Specialties S90.

I had his Dual Tone II set in a Les Paul which have one Steel Pole S90 coil and one alnico 5 rod magnet coil set next to each other. It had P90 tones rich in midrange on the S90 coil, with solid lows and clear highs. Since he winds each set to order you can always request he makes yours with an alnico or ceramic magnet of your choosing if you prefer.

Welcome to the forum!

The Little 59 has a healthy amount of mids for a neck pickup- it isn't scooped at all like the full-size '59. You can even go for a neck Hot Rails which gets a great jazzy clean tone and isn't as crazy hot as the bridge model.

I really want a Strat just to have a set....but I have absolutely no reason.

I mean, let's be honest; Isn't the Red Devil basically a set of PG's tuned to sound like a Les Paul loaded with Pearly Gates?

I think that's what Billy G does to every guitar...tries to make it sound like an LP with PGs.

they dont sound like pgs in a lp to my ears. billy uses a 28 band midi eq to make everything sound similar to pearly, and his tone these days is much different than the old stuff. still great, just with a lot more gain and compression
