Relation between the output and the speaker

Can you effectively reduce the output of your combo only changing the speaker? I know different speakers have different eficiences so in you replace one speaker with another with a smaller eficience it will need more Watts to achive the same volume. But will this be noticiable? Or, in the end, the output almost won't change.

The speaker of my combo it is a Celestion V12-80 (Eficience 97db).

BIG TIME! You can't change the output of the amp but you sure can reduce the volume by going with a less efficient speaker or increase the volume of the amp with a more efficient speaker.

For example: the clean headroom and apparant volume of a Fender Deluxe Reverb can be improved dramatically by removing the inexpensive stock 12" speaker and installing a Celestion Vintage 30 or G12H30. The new tone will be alot louder and clearer while at the same time give alot pluckier and more useful soloing tones.

So you think the changes are very noticiable! That's a good new. Do you think a 97db it is a loud or a quiet speaker?
