A hit writing machine. I think they're one of those rare bands that wrote every great melody The Beatles didn't write.

They were a big part of the soundtrack of the 80's and 90's. Their songs, sound, and image will prove to be timeless. Peter Buck is probably the most underrated guitar player who was huge. He's always had great tones and great taste in everything.

They deserve to retire, although it feels like the end of an era for a great songwriting band.

A Top 5 band for me. Hate to see them go, but can't blame them.

For anyone thinking that they haven't done anything worthwhile since Automatic For The People, I encourage you to check out New Adventures in Hi-Fi, Up, and Accelerate. IMO, those three records all stand up very well with the best of the early stuff.

Yes, becasue a guy named ian Ballard from KS would be real glad, and the rest of the civilized world ( and no, not SDUGF) who acknowledges the Rolling stones are the worlds greatest rock n roll band would have missed out on some of the greatest music of the late 20th century.

What in the world are the Stones even doing in this thread except one delusional mans attempt to bring them down to this level?

The Stones have sucked since Woodstock but not nearly has much as you do.

That's what i wondered.

R.E.M were great, Monster & New Adventures are as good as there early stuff to me.
