Remixed clip, ears & opinions wanted

I've been trying to improve my mixing skills, as they suck in general. Please take a listen to these two & lemme know if you hear an improvement. I do, but I lose objectivity after working on it for awhile.

Here's the new mix: AK-FG (remix)

& here's the original: AK-FG

Note that with the drums, I can change level/eq/add reverb/whatever to the entire drum track only, I cannot alter individual sounds within it.

Thanks!

liked the remix better, although i think i noticed the right channel being louder than the left....could just be these questionable headphones though. either way, good progress for sure.

2nd one much better than the original. I think maybe the intro guitar could be knocked down a little when the other guitars and bass come in, it may be a little loud, and it's panned hard to one side, which makes it stick out that much more. Other than that, sounds great to me!

The right channel does sound alittle louder in the remix, but overall I like it. Nice work dude!

I think the main problem areas are the ones you have no control over, specifically with regard to the drums. Even then it's not sonics, I think you managed to get really chunky texture into your sounds. It's more of a panning issue. The hats are way out wide and end up being like dog's balls, but the ride is in tight to the rest of the kit. The effect this has is that there's actually more high end energy in the 'A' section of the song than the 'B' section, when I would imagine you'd really want it to lift into that "B' section. If the reverse were true, hats in tighter and down in the mix and the ride up in the mix and wider, you would get the desired effect. As it stands the energy drops in the 'B' section.

If you're working on a computer, check out Addictive Drums http://www.xlnaudio.com/ They will give you better sounds and all the control you could want.

The remix is definitely more balanced. I don't think your mixing skills suck at all, I just think you are limited in your choices with the drums, which isn't helping you. The guitars sound great, really chunky. One tip, try adding some 800Hz @ a fairly narrow Q to the bass to make it meet up with the guitars a little more. Otherwise, I think you're doing really good work.

Cheers.......................wahwah
