Remove Fret Glue

Is there any way to remove excessive fret glue that seeps out the edges of the fretboard? I dont want to ruin the finish though. Thanks!

Re: Remove Fret Glue

Try a product called "Goo Gone." It won't ruin the finish, but how well it works will depend on what kind of glue it is. Ultra-strong super glue is probably never coming off, unless you sand it off and refinish .

Goo Gone is safe on finishes? I did not know that, thanks for the info.

Goo Gone is mostly just naptha. I've used it on finishes multiple times and I've never had any problems.

What kind of glue are you using?

Re: Remove Fret Glue

Actually, now I'm not sure if its glue or not. The part of the neck I am talking about would be the part you would see if you were standing up with the guitar and looking down at the neck, the part with the dot markers on top. Where the frets meet the neck, there is little white spots. However, I really dont know what it is.

Its not the dot markers by the way, its directly under the frets themselves.
?????

Now you lost me..Of course there´s glue UNDER the frets, that´s the glue that helps keep them seated....

Or are you having a problem on a cheaper guitar that the frets aren´t dressed properly and are sticking out the sides / pushing the end filler out??

Sorry bro, I´m lost...could you shoot a pic so I know what you mean? I´m having a hard time visualizing what you´re talking about.... ;)

Re: Remove Fret Glue

That doesn´t look like glue seeping out to me, but like a crap finish job that´s "lifting" around the fret ends (probably because whoever did the fretwork was too lazy /cheap to put filler putty on the ends.)....

Re: Remove Fret Glue

Doesn't look like glue to me. It looks like the fret ends are poking through the finish due to fretbaord shrinkage. It's actually pretty common and unless the fret ends are poking through enough that you can feel them, it is cosmetic only. Although that probably doesn't make you feel any better about it ;)

Re: Remove Fret Glue

Would a humidifier help to expand the neck?
Also, if I brought the guitar to a tech to fix it, would it ruin they have to ruin the finish? Thanks!

Re: Remove Fret Glue

I should note, these are pictures taken by a guy who is selling this guitar. Its a Gibson Flying V 67 Reissue with the cherry finish. It comes with the original hardshell case. He's asking $650 shipped for it. Despite the neck shrinkage, still think its a good deal?

Do yoiu have any sort of return policy on this guitar?? it´s nothing major, but something I´d like to play for at least an hour or so, just to see if it pisses me off ;)

But 650 shippd is a goodd price for a GIBSON 67 RI V (not a Faded) in good condition, yes.
