Removed Sticker: (Uneven Fading)

Hi,

I'm looking at buying this old Orville LP Custom. Unfortunatly at one time it had die-cut sticker on it. Since the sticker has been removed it has left the guitar with uneven yellowing of the finish, with the the area once concealed by the sticker left a bright white. I was wondering if it is possible to buff out and feather the white area left by the sticker into the surrounding finish. I pretty sure since it's an Orville it has a poly finish but I'm not sure. Any suggestions? It wouldn't be such a big deal if it were a rectangular sticker, but it was a die-cut sticker that read "Biohazard" :smack:

it sounds like the sticker has sheilded the guitar's finish from UV light, and this has caused the uneven yellowing..

where is the sticker mark? i have my guitars on a wall rack in my room, the sun's on them whenever it's out (in england, that is).. my guess is if you keep the guitar in sunlight, over time the different patches will get closer and closer in colour..

and i've heard some magical things about orville customs

You could cover all the body except the sticker part and lay it in the sun for a week or something...I dont know

First off, thanks for the suggestions so far I'll try them first if I end up getting the guitar. Here's what I've been thinking lately, any input would be appreciated.

Do you guys think the yellowing is in the finish itself (paint), or on the top clear coat? I'm guessing the top-coat is polyurethane since it's an Orville.

If the yellowing is on the top-coat how deep into the coat do you think is affected? I'm thinking that if it's a poly finish and the yellowing doesn't go too deep, I could maybe try some abrasive plastic polish and buff out the surrounding area down to fresh unaffected top-coat and then try and feather that area into the rest of the yellowed finish. Any thoughts?
