Removing gloss

Re: Removing gloss

You can rub over the surface with 0000 steel wool. This is so fine that you should avoid individual scratch marks. This worked a treat on an acoustic that I wanted to de-gloss, and I've heard others do it on solid bodies too.

Obviously there is a chance - as with any attempt to change the finish - that it will look wrong afterwards, so best to test it on a little-seen area if possible, and probably best not to do it on an expensive guitar unless re-sale value will never matter.

Re: Removing gloss

use a 3m scouring pad from homefix. its yellow/grey. much gentler and less messy.

Re: Removing gloss

alright , I juz did it on my homemade strat which I doubt would have any resell value. Thanks a million.

Re: Removing gloss

its a white strat... the difference in colour is hardly noticeable
