Hi to all!! Im John from Spain and i want to make my own guitar.
Ive bought a strat-style body and a neck and 2 Seymour Duncans pickups ( OF COURSE). SHR-1 Hot Rail for the neck position and a SJBJ Jr for middle position.
Ive seen so many wiring diagrams but I have some doubts.

If somebody can help me to with it... please!!

I've got 500k volum pot, a 500k tone, .022mF capacitor,3 and 5 way selector ( both ).

PD: If you think that the SJBJ is better in the neck position...TELL ME!!!

Thank you for all !!!

:)

Re: Remplacing Pickups!!!

Hi John. What style of music do you play and what kind of amp do you have? What are you using for the bridge position? Also, what specifically about the wiring diagrams on the site are you having doubts about? I'm just trying to narrow it down so that we can help you better.

Re: Remplacing Pickups!!!

The JB Jr is a better neck pickup than bridge or middle. The Hotrails also makes a better bridge pickup.

Re: Remplacing Pickups!!!

Ok, so i have for neck the JB Jr and for middle the hot rails. This is because i have to buy another pickup for bridge position but for the moment... i can't hehe.In the future i will have another hot rail for the bridge. Can you show me a wiring diagram for 2 pickups with 1 volume pot and 1 tone pot and 3 way switch?

My music style is like Heaven and Hell, Black Sabbath even Iron Maiden ( from Brave New World to Final Frontier )

Thank you for your answers!!!!!!!

Re: Remplacing Pickups!!!

Hi Juan,

Welcome to the forum.

It´s unusual to see a diagram for a strat with just two pickups so you have a few options from what is available. I´ll let you decide and hope I don´t confuse you with too many options. If you find it confusing stick with option 2 or 3 - whichever seems easier - and worry about changing it later.

Out of curiosity why are you going with a 3 way switch? Why not use a 5 way and not have to modify the wiring later - unless you want to avoid the extra "in between" positions.

Option 1)
This is the more or less what you´re looking for but the switch and pickup are different. The diagram is for a 5 way switch instead of a 3 way. As you´re going to add the bridge pickup later you can just leave it out for now...

...so you won´t have the "bridge white" wire going from the bridge pickup to the switch and you will only have two "Black wires from pickups" going from the pickups to the top of the volume pot.

When you get your bridge pickup they are the only two wires you´ll need to connect.

Option 2)
Alternatively a standard tele diagram should leave you with exactly what you want but you´ll need to modify the wiring later to add another pickup.

Option 3)
As the pickups you mentioned are single coil sized humbuckers they may have more than two wires...in that case it may be easier to follow a diagram for two humbuckers which would be more along the lines of wiring for a les paul with just a vol and tone, then later worry about changing the switch for

Again with this diagram, with the bridge pickup you´ll need to modify it later on.

Lastly, here are diagrams showing a couple of different switches which may help:

What part of Spain are you in?

Re: Remplacing Pickups!!!

Thank you playas!!! Im from Murcia in the south of Spain. I will do it with a 5 ways switch because i want to include a bridge pickup in the future. So option 1 is the best for the moment.

So,i want to thank you for the information!!!and the quick answer!!!!

Only one thing...the hotbrail i have isbfor neck position...shr1n...it doesnt matter??i mean can i place it in bridge position?and if not,how can i set the sjbj and the hot rail??thinking in the future bridge pickup
