Hey tone expert bros. Ok so as you may know, I upgraded from my Fender Stage 112SE to a Mesa Rectoterb (thanks Nathan!). I want to replace the preamp tubes. What is the best 12AX7 tube? I need 5 of them. I want a sound that would BEST replicate what EL34s would do if I were to switch from 6L6s (-they sound too good clean). I've heard good things about Sovtek and unlabled Chinese tubes. Also the name Euro Bob rings a bell.. Can someone point me in the right direction about a specific model 12AX7?
I recently bought an OLP Dot Studio (sunburst), got a steal @ $194 from Zzounds. I got a zebra DD bridge. Not gonna attempt to wire this thing myself - I'll go the extra $18.75 at the local shop. Also, if anyone has one, I read something on the HC reviews: STEEL WOOL! I applied lemon oil using steel wool.. it's smoother than a baby's bottom and looks like a violin. Good thing it comes unfinished. Wouldn't want any scratches! I'll sell the Alnico II USA-made bridge pup for cheap, like $20 so heads up..
Who knew the DS-1 could sound so sweet on a Rectifier DIRTY channel? It boosts the highs and really sounds righteous in a tinny sorta way. Anywho, I need help with my pedalboard dilemma cause I'm going back to pedals. To send power through the supply, I need a male-male 1/8" and DC plug cable. Does anyone know of an online cable store that would have this 9v accessory? The DC powers the pedalboard but I need to send 6 jacks' worth of power to the pedas with these cable. On one side it plugs into a 9v-accepting pedal, and on the other side, it plugs into a phono jack, which is what home audio headphones use, por ejemplo. I cannot find this anywhere. Closest I can get is to make my own with Radio Shack ingredients, but $10 per cable is ridiculouser than balls.
I'm slowly building a small rack setup and don't know the critical elements. I have a BBE 462 Sonic Max. NEVER SELL your BBE if you have one - you will later regret it cause I know I did. I don't know what else to get for the rack. Don't want to get into MIDI. What does a power conditioner do exactly? Will I need one for 50 watts?
On my Rectoverb there are 2 4ohm outs and 1 8ohm out (for the combo speaker). My cab is 8 ohms, so I use the jack where the internal speaker plugs in. However, my cab has dual inputs. Would it work to leave the 8ohm internal speaker plugged in, then send 2 4ohm signals into an otherwise 8 ohm cab w/ parallel inputs? In other words, all 3 speaker outs on the combo in use, with both inputs on the cab (4xCelestion G12T-100) engaged as well.
