Repairs anyone

Here is my Godin LGX-SA (S) . I love this guitar ! But I need to replace the volume control and the 5way switch. This guitar was before they added the battery compartment so I added one. I also replaced the tuners for the locking tuners. But not sure I want to use Godin switches for the replacement of the 5way and volume. So any info and or suggestions would help allot.:D

Re: Repair Info Needed

Re: Repair Info Needed

So what are your thoughts on this project ? Do I go with the Super Switch or the Standard Switch ? and where do I get the wiring diagrams or are the ones for the switches compatible with the LGX-SA ? :?:

Re: Repairs anyone

Thats going to be a trickier. A superswitch gives many different options. Usually combining various coils in ways a regular 5 way couldn't.

It all depends on how the 'other' parts of the wiring interact with the regular electronics. As these schemes can get nightmarishly complicated, I would recommend simply replacing with what is stock. You seem to have a few tonal and switching options already.

Thanks , I have been contemplating the same thing. That being said I was thinking that the quality of the Standard 5way might be improved on but I do not know. The tech at Godin said that the stock 5way is either an YKE or Yamaha I cant find any info on them and one from Godin is $30 . At that price I thought there might be an upgrade . I'm thinking the standard 5way wiring should be the same as the stock right ?

Re: Repairs anyone

OK, after thinking this over a bit, my question is. If there is an upgrade option, the wiring should just go back to the same places as the stock 5way switch right ?

Re: Repairs anyone

Well as it turns out , Godin no longer keeps the, YKE 5way switch for my guitar. But recommended this one as a replacement, [ EP-4276-000 Schaller Model E 5 Way Megaswitch ]. So will the wires go to the same spots on this switch as the old one ?
They have not said anything about the Volume switch . I take for granted that any Volume control will work as long as it has the same tabs and has the same post length right?

Re: Repairs anyone

I almost always use CTS pots, usually 500k audio taper for humbuckers. for the switch either CTS, Fender , or DiMarzio super switch. From what I remember, these will wire up a little differently than the Schaller switch. I'm not familiar with the YKE or Yamaha switches. You can get lots of help with wiring here:

Re: Repairs anyone

I suppose I will go with the [EP-4276-000 Schaller Model E 5 Way Megaswitch] Godin said it will wire up just like the original, that would be nice ! But for the Volume control I am not sure . What is the difference in them ? I am going with a 500k but not sure if it is a short shaft or long shaft , am thinking [EP-0686-000 CTS Long Shaft 500K Split Shaft Audio Pot] in that it has to go through the body of the guitar . However I think I would rather go with [EP-4826-000 CTS 500K 295 series Audio Pot] if it would work. But truthfully I do not know if it would be any better anyway. :nervous:

Re: Repairs anyone

Those knobs look they probably have set screws on their sides. In that case you would be better off getting a solid shaft pot. You can still use a split shaft but you'll want to fill in the split with a small piece of metal so the shaft doesn't collapse when you tighten the set screw on the knob.

You may have enough body thickness to use a long shaft pot, bt you will probably be fine with a short shaft too (especially if you have set screw knobs).

OK thanks. I never even thought about the shank being split! I suppose I will need to call in the order then in that they do not offer an option online . again thanks for the heads up ! :)
