repeating licks-strict alternate picking???

I've been playing for a few years now but I'm trying to improve my right hand technique.

When playing repeating licks like the one below:

e --------5-------5--
b ------5-------5----
g ---7b------7b------

should I use strict alternate picking so that it changes the picking each time I play the lick? For example - I start with a downstroke on the 7th g, an upstroke on the 5th b, a down stroke on the 5th fret e and an upstroke to start the lick again and so on.
Does this apply to all repeating licks?

thanks, John

Re: repeating licks-strict alternate picking???

That looks more like a sweep than alternate picking. And since you wrote the lick starting and ending on the same strings, it would be played sweeping the same way (ie, all downstrokes). Otherwise, it would go G - E string, and then E - G string ...

OK bad example how 'bout this one

e------5------- repeat...
b---8b---8po5

Re: repeating licks-strict alternate picking???

I would alternate that second one since the pickhand isn't responsible for the pull-off on the B
