Replace a Preamp Tube with a "Socketed" OD/Distortion Effect?

Stupid question alert! :wall:

Would it be possible to unplug a preamp tube...and insert more gain stages using a socketed device that would add more crunch to the tone of a tube amp?

I think the tube socket could be the interface for a "chain" of things if that is what you are alluding to Sludge.

Ala, the Soldano "hotmod", or something like it.

Nice train of thought. :bigthumb:

Correct! The Hot Mod works wonders in a vintage style amp that doesn't have the high gain tone that some guys want...however it might be overkill in a high gain amp...

Scratch my deleted post...how might this work in a 6550 powered 150 watt dinosaur that has lots of headroom?
