Hello, I have just gotten my hands on a Squire John 5 Tele. I love this guitar. I am fairly new to the telecaster world (I have Ibanez prestige rg’s and a music man petrucci) but fell in love with a fender special run silverburst tele not long ago. I play in a few different projects but right now my main project is a classic rock cover band. The silverburst tele has become my main guitar to my surprise (even though I’m so used to 24 frets and floating trem systems). I modded the silverburst with a dimarzio tonezone in the bridge with a 3 way toggle to split series/parallel/single and an area t in the neck. Anyway back to my John 5. I have a Seymour Duncan Invader bridge pick up and wanted to know it this paired with a full shred neck and push pull knobs to split them would be a good sound. The body is alder. Any help is very much appreciated.

Would it be weird to suggest the pickups that John 5 actually uses in his US-made guitars?
I've got the DiMarzio D-Activators in a guitar and they're really spectacular. I expected them to be sterile and stiff but they're actually ballsy and the neck pickup is super bright but full bodied, which I LOVE.

No not weird at all. I was thinking about that route. I just had an invader a friend gave me and had read it was good in alder guitars. Since this is a Duncan forum I though I could get some people to chime in on a Duncan pick up. Thanks for your chime.. ha ha....What kind of guitar do you have them in?

If the Squier J5T is Crafted In Indonesia, there is a high probability that the body is made from Agathis. (I have a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Custom II.) This wood tends to have a darker tone than American Alder. Hence, pickups with extra brightness would help.

I liked a full shred neck with an invader, one of my favorite combo's but that was in a les Paul, they could sound good in a tele but it's preference, some find the full shred too bright.

Hey I don't know if they come in the Squier version, but for a while Fender was making a pickup for him called the Enforcer that I got when I was really into John 5. I'm PRETTY SURE I still have it, I haven't had any use for it in a long time though? I know they stopped selling it outside of his Fender model for some reason.

Invader/Full Shred neck is very cool. I've currently got them in a basswood Ibanez RG 450LTD that I'm using to review them for the Duncan blog.
