replacement pickups ? oh dear god!

hi i have a semi acustic kind of gretsch 6120 looke likee thing nice guitar great to play but the pickups are ****e i play through a fender super 210 valve combo all 50s rock&roll/rockabilly stuff real aggressive stuff but the pickups start to break up just as i start to get a sweet meaty sound i need it to sound squeeky clean, punchy, and warm with a thick twangy bottom end any ideas? eddie .

Maybe the pickups are hitting the front end of the amp too hard. Try backing the pu's off from the strings a little.
