Replacement Pickups

Hi guys, I was trying to post a topic in the Seymor Duncan forum but, the system don't let me to register, that's why I'm posting my question here.

I have 2 guitars of the many I owe which I want to upgrade the pickups.

The first guitar is an Ibanez SA with 3 Strats. For this guitar I picked a Seymor Duncan Little ' 59 stray at the neck position, at the middle position I picked a Seymor Duncan Duckbuckers strat, and for the bridge I picked a Seymor Duncan JB Jr Strat.I think that is a very good combination. Now, here my dilema:

I have an Ibanez Iron Label S Series that came Dimarzio pickups, and I want to replace those pickups with Seymor Duncan pickups. I want to know if the following is a good configuration a guitat build for metal.

At the Neck, and Bridge position I want to install Seymor Duncan Invader, and for the middle position I want a Seymor Duncan Zephyr. Is that configuration good? Or I should work in a different configuration?

Thank you guys!

Re: Replacement Pickups

Welcome to the forum!

I am a little confused with your question...the Ibanez Iron Label S Series has 2 pickups (I think), a neck humbucker and a bridge humbucker. So there is no middle pickup. Also, there might be some problems with the mounting tabs fitting on the guitar, as the Ibanez uses triangular shape tabs...you might have to modify the Duncans.
The last point is that a neck Invader and bridge (I think that is what you mean) Zephyr might work balance-wise, but they'd be seriously different in tone. This isn't bad, but just know that the Invader has a ton of mids, while the Zephyr is wide open- they will sound vastly different. Again, there is no right or wrong here.

Re: Replacement Pickups

Thank you for the info. The Ibanez Iron Label S series has 3 pickups but The Iron Label RG series has either 2 or 3 pickups depends of the model.

Oh cool, I must've been thinking about the wrong one. You might have the same problem (I can't tell from the pic) with the tabs being the wrong shape to fit, but it is nothing that a dremel on the baseplate couldn't fix. I think the Zephyr in the middle would still be vastly different EQ wise than the neck. I might try for something a little more balanced EQ-wise.

Got it. Thanks for the info. Yeah, the tabs of the SD pickups are square, and the shape of the tabs on my actual pickups are kind of triangular.

Re: Replacement Pickups

How about Invaders with a Hot Rail or maybe a QP if you want a true single?

Re: Replacement Pickups

Cool Rail if you want it to sound like an open humbucker. Use Vintage Rails if you want it to sound like a Strat pickup, but noiseless.
