replacement pups for '52 RI

I have a '52 RI Telecaster wich I love in every way except that its pups don't seem to drive my amp very hard, also there's some kind of ground buzz that stops when I touch the strings. I've sort of got my eye on Seymours stk-t1 and stk-t3 models, but my concern is losing the sparkle and definition also will they get rid of the buzz or is that a seperate issue? another thing is I want to keep the guitar looking traditional

Re: replacement pups for '52 RI

I have a 52RI also and I replaced the pickups with a vintage 54N and a Jerry Donahue Bridge. The JD has a nice amount of midrange and still has plenty of Tele Spank. The 54 N is really a sweet neck pickup. I picked this combination mainly to keep the guitar as "vinatge" sounding as I could. I am very happy with this set, but I would imagine it will have a lot to do with what type of sound you are after. I have a few other Teles also and they are all set up a little different. This one comes as close to a vintage Tele as I have heard.

I play Blues, R&B, Rock and Country, That's the hard part. I want the best of all possible worlds. I guess what I want is the vintage sound but with a little more bite or sizzle or something. I was thinking of the stacks because of the noise problem. Do you have any problems with buzz, Bludave?

I like the Vintage Stack set for Telecasters. They are noiseless, and they still look like traditional Telecaster pickups.

No more than what you normally get with single coils. As far as I am concerned if you are playing singles in a Tele or a Strat 60cycle hum is expected. The minor issue I have with this particular guitar is a little static when I run my hand across the pickguard. That passes as the night goes on, but other than that very minor issue I love this guitars set up. I also play Blues and rock. I tend to lean more towards a Strat, but when I need a vintage Tele tone this is the guitar I pick!
