Replacement speaker in 50 watt combo

I have recently purchased a 50 watt 1X12 Laney combo. It is currently loaded with the cheap, stock speaker (Celestion Sevendy 80). I find it kinda farty in the low end and harsh in the top when I crank it up. Thinking about replacing it soon with the celestian Vintage 30 or V-type. Anyone with experience or suggestions?

The V type gets good reviews.

The V type is not as loud as the Vintage 30 and has a medium sized magnet. The heavier magnet of the Vintage 30 will combat the farts better. The V type is supposed to have smoother upper mids.

I have used both the Marshall version and the Mesa Boogie version of the Vintage 30 for years. Once broken in these two are great speakers in my experience. I like them in open backed cabinets okay. If you go for the Vintage 30 I would recommend you get one from Mesa Boogie. Their version is UK made and sounds warmer than the standard version. The Marshall version is brighter but not in a bad way.

I’ve been enjoying my Warehouse Veteran 30.

Buy used, broken in already, cheaper, and you can find UK originals of things that have gone Chinese (the SOLE source of new retail UK V30's is to mailorder it from Mesa)

Good neutral high wattage speakers: k100, k85 (same speaker, old name), early 80s g12-80, and Mesa-branded Celestion MC90 (aka C90)
Good flavored high wattage: v30, marshall vintage
Somewhat flavored: g12-65

For me, it's hard to beat the Celestion Creamback 65w. I have it in my DSL40c and it's been the best I've tried so far. The 70/80 came out very soon and I also tried the Creamback 75, but the 65 is the best. It's flavored like a Greenback and I like that woody, crunchy tone.
