replacing an input jack for active electronics

I've got an old jackson/charvel with active elctronics and the plastic input jack seems to be broken. I want to replace it with a switchcraft jack. I've got a couple here, one is a straight mono jack, the other is a stereo jack, but not the typical TRS kind of stereo jack I've seen in all the wiring videos. It has three lugs, two go to the tip, and one to ground. Can I use either of these successfully? If I understand it correctly the battery just needs to go to ground on the jack so it could theoretically just be doubled up on the ground lug of a mono jack no?

No.

A TRS jack (TRS = tip/ring/sleeve), referred to as a stereo jack, has 3 lugs but only one wire (the hot/lead wire) goes to the "tip". Another wire goes to the "ring" and a 3rd wire (ground) goes to the "sleeve" . When a battery is involved, the ground from the battery typically goes to the "sleeve" lug which completes the battery circuit when a plug is plugged in and breaks the circuit when the plug is removed. This conserves the battery if you remember to remove the guitar cord when you are not using the guitar.

By the way, this is an "output" jack, not an "input" jack.

Right, if the battery and ground are on the same lug then the battery is always being drained?
