Replacing magnets

Anybody here have a link to a guide for replacing the magnet on my pickups. I have found one on the web but it is not working. It told me to slide the magnet out by pushing a screwdriver against one end. Mine will not budge. Any help would be great. Thanks.

That should work.

Humbucker, right? Did you unscrew (loosen) the bobbins first? What brand of humbucker is it?

Re: Replacing magnets

Ibanez Humbucker. Don't know what model. I figured I would mess with it because it is an old one before I tried it on a SD. Loosened the screws and broke the seal but the magnet will not slide out. Do SD's generally slide out pretty easily?

Yes, you just hav to break the wax bond. I pry a real small (sharp) screwdriver between the mag and the baseplate to break it loose.

It's possible the mag in the Ibby pickup is glued to the baseplate.

Re: Replacing magnets

Stupid question but maybe you forgot:
Did you pull up the tape on both ends so you can see the magnet? Otherwise the tape will hold it.

Re: Replacing magnets

I broke the seal and moved the tape. The magnet seems to be stuck to the bobbins and won't break free. I am using quite a bit of force too.

Re: Replacing magnets

OK I did it. I decided to sacrifice the ibby pickup and offer it up to the gods. Turns out they glued the magnet to the stud bobbin. The magnet actually broke before the glue bond gave way. Anyways, I got it done and now know what it all looks like. Moving on to the SD. Here goes something. Thanks for the input everyone.

That was a ceramic magnet. Alincos are all metal & won't break. I've never seen a high quality PU that had the magnets glued in.

Re: Replacing magnets

A few weeks ago I dropped my A8 mag while taking it out of the package and it snapped in half....
