Reprise

I tried a Helix Rack many months ago and I couldn't get the sound I wanted out of it. I may try it again in the future though. I have tried the Helix, the Fractal, the POD HD series, the Eleven Rack and the POD X3.

And my favorite is the X3. The JCM-800 in it gives me the sound I want.

:thanks:

I'll have to look again at how I set it up. It's not a complicated preset. Probably amp, OD, delay, and reverb.

Plus I always use a hi/lo cut to focus the mids.

Once you get the hang of programming the Helix, it's actually pretty simple. In fact, I took the tricks I learned for the Helix and improved my POD HD presets. The most important tip is to use a hi/lo cut before the cabinet model, or after the combo model, usually in path 2A. I start at 80Hz/8-12KHz to focus the mids. I adjust by ear.

I have amp models that I like and use more frequently. I rarely have to tweak them to get "my" sound. Same for effects models.

The other day in rehearsal we were working on a new song. Our drummer/band leader/primary songwriter wanted a specific set of tones. I programmed it in about 2 minutes starting from an existing preset.

The biggest secret to programming digital is to abandon your bias regarding specific amps and experiment. I often find that the "best" amp sound can be found with an unexpected model. My favorite "marshall" sound in the Helix is not a Marshall amp model. Same for Fender sounds. The best part is it costs nothing extra to use all those different models.

The guitar tone is huge! That is a very thick lead tone.

I finally looked:
this preset is the same one I used for A Measure of Faith, w/ an EQ used for a 3dB boost in the outro.

tube screamer into Supro Preamp into Mesa Lonestar Ch2 combo w/2x12 Z Best V30 speakers & 421 dynamic mic

chamber reverb and simple delay.
