I just can't get away from the idea of putting a Twang Banger at the bridge of my Epi Les Paul. I seriously want that single-coil fire on tap, and I don't see ANY humbucker that might satisfy. I know there's an adapter plate/surround to pull this off. Who can think of what might go wrong with this?

If no one (or not enough people) talk me outta this.... I feel this is something I must do. I've been all over the archives here.... don't see anything even close to this mod. Whaddaya think?

Try a hummer in parallel. Single coil tone but with no hum. Easier to fit, easier to sell if you upgrade to a Gibson or similar. The JB is pretty good in parallel, and so would be any other pickup of similar output. There was an old thread on the invader being good in parallel.

IMO, as a Twangbanger owner/user, an integral part of this pickup's "fake Tele" sound depends upon the hardware of the instrument.

On a vintage six-screw vibrato bridge, as far as saddles are concerned, pressed is best. Their very cheepnis contributes to the twang - not as much as a three-saddle T bridge but way more than a regular Am Std.

When asked about the sound of the SD Twangbanger, I usually describe it as a mixture of Tele, Strat and P90 characteristics. There is a clue in there somewhere. If there is some tonal overlap between a juicy Tele and a P90, the neatest solution to the OP might be a P-Rails wired to give four sound options.

Take a Seymour Duncan Stag Mag pickup! That is 2 SSL-1 on a Humbucker baseplate. And it sound like them 100%

OK, I listened to the Stag.... hard to tell (impossible, actually) exactly what it might sound like on my guitar, but you may be onto something. I'll stop by Guitar Pirates next time I'm in Eugene. Maybe I'll get a better idea.

I'll have to say - even just hearing the sound clip on the Duncan website - my eyebrows jumped just a bit and at least one of my ears seem a little crooked now. I think that's a good thing.
