Retubing My Laney

I have a second hand Laney TFX320. Its hard to get info about it because it seems laney has done away with them and erased all pdf's about them on the website. Apparently it has 1 ECC83 Tube Preamp. I find the sound to be a little brittle, and im sure it needs to replaced as the amp was a rental. Any suggestions? Actually, any wisdom you could impart in general on tubes in amps, how they are installed etc, would be really appreciated. Im in the dark on this subject.

It would be nice to see what is currently in the amp for a tube.

But, I would go with either a JJ ECC83S or the JJ ECC803S, to smooth it out. Either way it should be a simple remove and replace situation, no biasing needed.

You may find out the speaker is what is brittle.

I doubt you will notice much of a change with those hybrids. I had a Vox that was similar (one 12ax7 tube) and changing the tube did nothing to change the tone. I think you'd be better off with a speaker change.

+1, the tube in a hybrid amp won't have that much effect on tone, so a speaker is your best bet.
