Reverb & chorus pedals.

So, I can't acquire any more guitars, amps or speakers simply because I have no space for them, but I reckon I could squeeze a few more pedals into the box under my bed. :1:

So, I'd quite to get reverb and chorus pedals. I'm not thinking boutique, just well made from decent quality components.

For the reverb - something that does a good spring emulation, for a surfy kind of ripple; obviously a real spring unit is out of my price range so any alternative suggestions are welcome.

For chorus... um, I just want a good chorus effect really. Preferably with full control over depth/rate/speed etc. I used to use chorus a lot, but it was all from digital multi-fx units and I now find them a bit too cold sounding, so something with a good warm analogue feel.

Ideas...?

Reverb & chorus pedals.

A verb ills for reverb or a holy grail. Both are excellent emulations of real spring reverb. I have the verb ill and it's great. For chorus I will only use a boss CE2. One of my favorite chorus pedals ever.

I don't have any recommendations for a reverb pedal for that use, but I'd recommend the TC Electronic Corona chorus. Versatile and really good.

boss ce-3's are good bargains. When stock, they do sound a bit thinner than the ce-2 (best chorus ever), but if you dont mind doing some soldering, just a couple of component changes will modify your ce-3 into a ce-2 with stereo capability.

Sir - you have came to the right place. You NEED EXACTLY WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY!

Verb - good spring? That's it? No question - Holy Grail by EHX. Many will suggest their Swiss Army verbs such as the TC or Verbzilla. Ignore them.

Chorus with control? Get a Digitech Chorus Factory. 7 different verbs from Boss CS 1, to TC Electronic, Small Stone...whatever flavor floats your boat. KILLER FACTOR - six knob adjustment ALL models have rate, depth and level no matter what! Then there are two more parameters available!!!!!!!! Often a high band eq...to warm things up.

This combination right here. Maybe 100 bones off the bay these days.

Cheap and simple? Boss Fender Reverb pedal and a an H2O or Voodoo labs chorus. Get the above two. You WILL NOT BE SORRY!!!!!!!

Yep, CE-2 = amazeballs. CE-3 is almost as good, and stereo if you need that.

The best current production chorus I've tried is the MXR Analog Chorus. Had I not found a CE-2 for a good price, I would have one myself.

Many people are saying holy grail which is alright but you should listen for yourself as I am personally not a big fan of the Holy Grail and prefer spring sounds from the verbzilla. If money is not objection the Flint has 3 different awesome sounding reverbs as well as three tremolos. Chorus wise I am a fan of the Marshall Supervibe very different sounding from other pedals but like said above CE-2s are pretty nice.

Our very own wahwah made AMAZING demos with the Neunaber Wet Reverb. Of course, he does that with everything he touches, but if I were to give up my TC Electronics Hall of Fame, that's what I would buy. For chorus, I like my Visual Sound H2O, because the echo works beautifully with its chorus, but it's certainly not the only game in town. Truth be told, if I had it to do over, I'd probably get a better digital delay and a better chorus, but I'm satisfied. Just not thrilled.

Thanks for the answers so far... so the Boss CE-2 and CE-3 are popular. How do the current production Boss models (CE-5 and CH-1) compare with them and is there a mod that can make them sound like the older version? Also has anyone tried the Mooer Ensemble King, they seem to be getting good reviews.

Edit: Also, is the Holy Grail Plus just like the Holy Grail with extra stuff, of is the basic sound different?

I own 2 CE2's & a clone of a CE2. They are the best I've used. As far as Reverb..... I have a Verbzilla but I use it with an amp (Komet60) that has no reverb. With my Fenders & Bogner no need for it nothing is better then Spring reverb. If you really want to do it right by a Fender Reverb unit. Awesome!

Hardwire reverb....
For chorus alternatives....Ibanez CS-9 or the old cs-505.....but most likely those are not all that cheap.
Or the stereochorus from the Ibanez 10 series, also analouge and sweet...

The current production Boss digital choruses are completely different from the CE-2 and CE-3, which are analog. To my ear digital chorus is very stiff and not nearly as "musical" as analog chorus.

Like I said, the closest I've heard to a CE-2 for less than $200 is an MXR Analog Chorus.

Electro-Harmonix Small Clone is the only chorus I'll ever need. Deep/shallow sweep switch and a rate knob. Fully analog. Sounds AMAZING!

Your ear couldn't tell my CF-7 dialed in from ANY of the models it emulates. Especially not on a recording or super-especially live. A/B with the original and you might very well prefer the CF-7

You know - I don't know this for certain....but I think it is. And different from the Nano as well. Don't know for sure - just a feeling. Something about the original settings that just hit the sweet spot, that futzing with the parameters does not make any better (perhaps just different).

If adjustment is what you seek - try the Holy Grail Plus.

I like Earthquaker Devices' stuff, so I'm going to recommend a couple of their pedals. First is with a big qualification - since you said you were looking for a spring type verb. I prefer room/plate sounds, and I love my Ghost Echo reverb for that. I like it better than the onboard reverb of my DRRI. But it's not a spring. Secondly, I've had a Boss CE-2 and now have a Boss DC-2 Dimension C on my big stereo board. They are great choruses. But on my smaller, playing-out board I use an EQD Sea Machine chorus. It can just about duplicate the DC-2 (only in mono), plus it has a lot of adjustments to get a lot of different sounds, from traditional chorus to some really trippy stuff. Highly recommended.

I find that very unlikely, but if you like the CF-7 then great. I love my CE-2. I tried over a dozen choruses before picking it up.
