Reverb on Fender twin reverb broken

Hey,
So the reverb on my amp has slowly been crapping out. Now it officially doesn't work. Yes i know i should have fixed the problem sooner. Here's the rundown: I have tried a different tube, didnt fix it. I tried a different rca cable, didnt fix it. Now it gets weird: i plugged in a different reverb box and it worked but the reverb was very faint. i than used the twin reverb box on a different amp and there was reverb sound but it was very faint. I am so confused as to what the problem. Id like to not pay money taking it to the tech so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, when the twin reverb box is plugged into the twin, the amp buzzes when i turn the reverb up.

Re: Reverb on Fender twin reverb broken

1) Are both reverb tanks from tube amps ?

2) Are you certain you have them plugged in the right way around ? Sometimes the nomneclature on the amp's sockets can be confusing. Best bet is to try each tank plugged in both ways (won't do any harm to the amps).

These things need to be ascertained before any further investigation comes into the equation.

thanks, i will try this. id also like to point out that i can hear the "BIOSSSH" sound from the reverb box when i rock the amp.

as for question 1. the other box is not from a tube amp. i didnt even think of that so i guess that answers part of my problem

Re: Reverb on Fender twin reverb broken

Try another pre tube in the reverb driver position. I cant remember if there's two tubes that control it. Turn the reverb knob back and forth a bunch of times in case it's an oxidized pot.

Re: Reverb on Fender twin reverb broken

The input and output impedances of reverb tanks vary between tube-driven reverb circuitry and the equivalent s/s reverb circuits (there are different impedance tanks to suit each application), so impedance mismatches can cause signal losses when using them in the incorrect application.

The BIOSSSH sound is good, tells us the reverb recovery circuit is working. Try plugging the Twin's own original spring back in, crank the reverb knob and re-test it. Then swap the input and output cables at either the spring enclosure or the amp and test it again. Let us know what happens.
