Reverb Units

I'm looking to get a simple reverb unit to run through the effects loop of my Marshall. Something simple, no frills, just set it and forget it. The two I'm looking at are the Alesis Picoverb and the EH Holy Grail.

Who's used these and what's your take on them?

Re: Reverb Units

Well... steer away from EH gear. At least from my experiences, their products are extremely unreliable. I once bought an EH Black Finger that stopped working after three days. Returned it, and got a new one, which stopped working after two weeks. And no, i do NOT beat up my gear. :)

Alesis makes some very good reverb modules, i recommend you to try out the picoverb or even the nanoverb.

Re: Reverb Units

I've heard about noise issues with the EH gear. Haven't heard much negative about the Holy Grail though, but I haven't head much either. HC reviews are worthless 90% of the time.

I'm familiar with Alesis' larger rack systems so I know their reputation and quality is really up there. What I like about the Picoverb, and even the Nanoverb, is how small and compact they are.

Thanks for the input, guys.

Anyone else?

How were the different settings?

Anybody else? I know more people here know about these units. Suggest a few others too.

Re: Reverb Units

Ok, only 4 suggestions? Unbelievable.

Ok, how about the Line 6 Tonecore Verbzilla pedal? It gets good marks, looks simple enough. Price is OK but if I sell my rack effects processor here I can get it. Thoughts?

Re: Reverb Units

I have gotten some really good verb tones out of thte Holy Grail and FWIW...I have owned in the past (and still currently own) a large stash of EH pedals...I have never had a problem with any of it.

Re: Reverb Units

I'm not familiar with the units you mentioned, if you have enough dough a Fender head style reverb unit sound gorgeous and is versatile.

Re: Reverb Units

Trust me, if I could afford one of those Fender units, I'd be all over it. Those things are just classic.

Christian, what's the "flerb" setting like?
Does the HG enough reverb to get the VHI and VHII big reverb sound?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Re: Reverb Units

Hey bro...Keep in mind that the Holy Grail sounds NOTHING like an outboard Fender.

The Flerb setting is a verb setting with a tiny bit of flanging going on...not like what you would think just a tiny bit of flamnge with the verb...

Check this out...keep inmind these are just simple clips but you can adjust the controls a bit and see what it does...this should give you a decent idea of what your infor...the only rela issue I have with the Holy Grail clips is that they are all clean.

Re: Reverb Units

Thanks, Christian. That site is pretty cool. I don't expect it to be anything like the Fender. They're 2 different beasts anyway. But if the funds made it possible, I'd aim for the Fender. Since I'm on a budget, a good digital reverb will do.

Right now it looks like the Holy Grail is the front runner. I checked out more of the details of the Verbzilla and although it sounds good (from the clips on the Line 6 site anyway), I just can't warrant spending that much. The Alesis units are nice and I need to check them out somewhere. Guess I might need to go to GC at some point :cringe:

The outboard Fender verbs are cool but I would never use one to play rock with...they are far too wet and splashy for that...
That is true. Totally didn't think about that. It's been a long time since I played with one but it left a massive impression on me.

The "Flerb" setting with the level all the way up is way cool. Sounds just like the intro to "You're No Good" (VH's version). Of course that intro was bass but still, it sounds cool.
