Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

Got these the other day (with my hearos). They're a little bit bigger than a Jazz III and made out of the Tortex material. It's been SOOOOO easy to make the switch, and I love the sharper tip. Feels more solid and accurate. I got the greens (mediums) which are comparable to the regular Tortex 88's. These things are seriously great for rhythm AND lead, especially funk type stuff. I can't say enough good about these little buggers.

Bag of 3 dozen (36 picks) for $8! Try them today!

So how do they compare to Jazz IIIs? Bigger, a little more flexible, but not as much as a standard tortex?

Pretty much. They still have the sharp tip of the Jazz III's which brings out harmonics more. I've been hitting a bunch without meaning to. Really improves your pickhand control.

So far as tone, I would say they might be a little more articulate than a typical Tortex simply because of the point.

I've never really played with a Jazz III that much, only enough to know that I didn't like a pick that was that small. I found it difficult to play rhythm with it, especially faster strums because they were so rigid.

The Tortex Jazz picks are the perfect cross between the easy lead playing with the JazzIII and the rhythm of the Tortex. I am seriously loving the sharper tip because it's that much easier to be more accurate.

Re: Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

I've tried these and I didn't like them as much as I did the regular Jazz III's :)

Another range you should check out are the Jazztones I've used the 208 with good results till i lost it :smack:

They have a much softer feel than the Jazz III's and are a bit bigger also :D

Re: Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

I love the Tortex Jazz. The heaviest they offer (purple) are almost exactly the same as the regular Jazz IIIs but made of the Tortex material. I find the black Jazz IIIs to get slick after 30 minutes or an hour, and the red ones are like a wet bar of soap to me. Best of both worlds with the Tortex Jazz, IMO.

Re: Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

i stopped sing my tortex ornage pick, for dumlop nylons .73's i liek the softer feel, but i mihgt go back i only bought 10 nylons to test em out we'll see how they hgold out for the week to follow

Re: Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

Thanx for the review!
I've tried all the Dunlop picks, and I always end up coming back to heavy Fender Premium Celluloid confetti ...

Re: Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

Those sound like what I've been wanting... Now I just have to wait until they make them out of Ultex.

Re: Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

They won't make em out of ultex, I've already emailed em about it....

Re: Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

ya actually tortex wins out again! lol is witched right back to the tortex after a few days, i prefer the solid feel of the tortex material over the nylon.

I don't like those at all... i prefer not to be left with a handful of plastic dust when I'm done playing :laugh2: :burnout:

I love purple tortex 1.14mm Jazz III's but i think i shall move to the green .88s of those. I used to like black stiffos but I got tired of the high end chirp they cause.

Re: Review: Dunlop Jazz Tortex Picks

Wow i hope they have these tortex jazz's here in australia, cos that sounds like my cup of tea! I like the jazzIII but its too small, so ive been wanting something bigger like that with the point on it for ages...hmmm maybe its here finally

I don't know what shipping would be down under but Musicians Friend has a bag of 36 for 7.48 + shipping. If that's all you order, the shipping charges are almost as much as the picks, but I also picked up a few sets of Hearos.

Tip: If you have some guitar-playing friends, ask them if they want any accessory items also. Split the shipping costs and come out ahead.

Cool thanks. One thing though...what are "hearos"? Are they earplugs or special earplugs or something? Ive heard that word about three times (for the first time) today and i dont know what anyones on about.
