Review: Everyone should own a pair of Hearos.

Hi, I figured that I'd add something worthwhile to the forum.

I recently bought a pair of Hearos High Fidelity Ear Filters.

They're amazing, they offer around 20db of flat attenuation over our hearing range. When I put the first one in, I didnt even know that they were working.

The only thing that sounds different is your own voice, everything around you is just like it was, only quieter.

You can even hold a conversation easily with them in.

They're even washable.

So in summation, for under 14 dollars, you can protect your hearing and still enjoy your music. They're washable, and have a carrying case.

Try them, if you haven't. You'll be amazed.

This message paid for by "Hearos." HEAR WHAT YOU'VE BEEN MISSING!

Re: Review: Everyone should own a pair of Hearos.

I had some of the "Extreme Protection" ones a year or so ago.

Bottom line....they sucked.

They didn't block out nearly as much as was neccesary to keep my ears from ringing. After the first set they got dumped in the trash and I went with my usual ear plugs which I buy 500 pairs ot a box for under $15.

I'm glad you had a good experience with them but I wouldn't be shocked to see a lawsuit from someone with damaged hearing because Hearos were nowhere near as effective as they claimed to be.

We should all use them. I'm sure evryone's done some damage over the years, and more than a few of us have tinnitus. I was reading in today's paper where Pete Townsend has been supporting hearing protection for quite a while, but he blames most of his hearing loss on the use of headphones in the studio, turned up way too loud.

That's something to consider, especially if you use a POD, Tonelab, Zoom, etc., through headphones. I know my tendency was always to keep cranking it up as I played through my old Zoom 9000. Now I use the Tonelab through the amp, but with the volume at a reasonable level....Ok, I lied, I still love cranking it up, but not quite so much as in the old days:laugh2:

I can also vouch for the Hearos, and I used to use custom molds. The attenuation isn't perfectly flat, but compared to standard foam earplugs they do wonders. I get mine from earplugstore.com but you can get them just about anywhere. They're not as comfortable as custom molds and look a touch dorky, but you also kick yourself less when you lose them...

Oh, and Jeffrec's comments are dead on. Long periods of headphone use can be tremendously damaging, and earbuds are even worse.

Re: Review: Everyone should own a pair of Hearos.

I use the "Rock N Roll" series they sell at Sam Goody. They sort of make my amp sound like it's got a blanket thrown over it but my hearing is still relatively the same as it was a few years ago. Before I started using earplugs I had ringing, buzzing, and general pain in my ears but now that's only after I go to a concert or ride around in somebody else's car. I paid $15 for the high fidelity ones but then I lost them. Didn't notice much of a difference so I stuck with the $3 Rock N Roll ones. But regardless of which brand/style you use earplugs are definantly a must!

Any music store could carry them...I picked mine up at Guitar Center.
