Here's the story: I was renovating my pedalboard and decided to sell my Whammy and a bunch of my other modulation effects. The problem was, I still wanted some kind of octaver to keep in my chain. However, I tried and didn't like the Boss OC-2/3 or the PS-2/5, which are great pedals, just not my cup of tea. I was looking around the boards here for something and then I saw joelap was selling a Custom Built Tycho Brahe Octavia Clone in this thread. I paypaled him and the pedal arrived at my door two days later...shipping is fast and service is good...
I'm going to start by saying this joelap build is pretty much the most kick ass dirt box I've ever heard, with amp distortion and without. I thought it would fill my room with crickets when I combined it with amp distortion but the pedal compressed the amp distortion, added harmonics, and evened out the breakup of the fuzz. It's amazing!
The octaver is thick as a brick and does power chords pretty sweet, single lines are heaven, and the thing even makes barre chords and open chords sound PHAT. Unlike digital octavers (OC-3 excluded) it actually tracks multiple notes quite well. I love it! The "raw" and "fat" tones are pretty self-explanatory but, geez, I'm already thinking of applications for both! By itself, fuzz mode alone, the thing has beautiful breakup on my 50Blue's clean channel.
Just, damn: wood bros, major wood.
I planned on sending him my BD-2 and DS-1 but due to financial constraints that'll have to wait. As far as joe's custom builds go if you're looking for great pedals buy from this guy! He's got great customer service, is willing to work with you if you're looking for something specific (talked with him about a custom delay), and like JB_from_hell said his prices are great! Buy from JOE!
