Rewiring ESP from active to passive pickups - a question about pots

Hi guys,

I am rewiring my bro-in-laws ESP Eclipse for passive pickups. It has EMGs right now.

As far as I know, we need to change the entire wiring harness, but does it need long or short shaft pots? And what size? Will regular CTS pots fit, or do they need to be a custom size to fit?

Thanks :)

The size/dimension of the pots is absolutely bound to your specific guitar and has nothing to do with active vs passive. Suffice to say that your original 25K EMG pots will have to be replaced. Just try to find some pots with the same dimensions as the EMGs.

Thanks, I know that regarding the dimensions of the pots, I was just wondering if someone knew if they are metric or imperial sizing - do standard Strat/LesPaul pots fit it, or do I need to get some smaller/larger pots.

Are there anyone who has made the switch from EMG to passives in a Eclipse?

Yes I have. I used the SD labeled bournes 500k's and had to toss the bottom nut that's supposed to lie under the surface of eclipse, so I'm guessing maybe long shaft would be better, but it is doable with regular length ones.

Cool, thanks. And stock pot sizes fit? I had heard something about the ESPs using 5mm pots and regular US pots being 6mm..

some reeming had to be done on all my guitars that started with active pots.

I recently bought a Washburn PXM18EB stripped out the EMG's plus all the pots and by luck the 25K Washburn put in used the same sized hole as the standard pots I bought to replace them!

Mind you they also drilled a hole for grounding the bridge but never used it....
