Ring Modulator

Looking for advice on Ring Modulators. Not looking for a cover band vs original band debate or which band/song s*cks the most. With that said, In the verse of the Saliva song -Click Click Boom- I hear a ring modulation going on. Advice on what pedals I can achieve this with would be fabulous.

Thank you

Re: Ring Modulator

There is definitely a Ring Modulator on that track. Back in that era, there were fewer options available. The Moogerfoogers weren't out yet, there was the Electro Harmonix Frequency Analyzer, and then the Snarling Dog Mold Spore and DOD Gonkulator. Of course it could have been run though a modular synth like a big Moog console.

Today, I'd go with something more musical. The ZVex Ringtone and the MiniFooger Ring Mod both allow adjustments as you play (ZVex with the sequencer, MiniFooger with expression control)

I've got an old Frequency Analyzer. It's fun to play with but ENORMOUS on a board and pretty much a unitasker. The modern EHX are smaller and more board friendly.

Here's demo of the one I've got.

Re: Ring Modulator

I have the MiniFooger Ring Mod the great thing about it is you can control the frequency with an expression pedal. Like all MOOG gear it is a great sounding unit.

Re: Ring Modulator

Try out a cheap multi fx. You can probably get an RP100 or zoom 505 for super cheap and get a good taste of ring mod before sinking a bunch of cash in a good one.
