Hi people, this is my first post here.
What pickups would make me sound similar to him but able to handle hi gain stuff pretty well as well. i wanted to sound like him at low gain, and a monster when gained turned up. i'm using agathis body fat strat with rosewood fretboard.

Same here, i remembered u said u freqent the forum here. Will be getting my lil 59 soon. pretty excited. wonder will i sound like the MAN(blackmore).

Welcome!

I'm pretty sure Blackmore's signature Strat uses Quarter Pounds in the neck and bridge, and a weird "dummy" coil in the middle position. Other than that, I'm not sure.

For your Fat Strat, you could try a Quarter Pound in the neck and middle. I'll leave it for someone else to fill in the humbucker recommendation.

I would think a good set of Noiseless pickups would be ok for higain playing.... that is if you can't stand the hum and buzz of real single coils.... I like the stock pickups in my cheap Mexican Strat for playing Purple stuff... I even thought about taking the cheap Mex Standard pickups and sticking them in my American Strat... I'm odd i guess...

Huge part of Ritchies sound aslo came from the fact he had a preamp from a tape deck plugged in in front of his Marshalls... that is said to provide some extra gain as well as a mid boost....

If you're talking about Richie's tone from 30 years ago with Deep Purple, Duncan SSL-1 or Antiquity Surfer pickups will do that tone. Richie used an old tube tape recorder as a pickup booster for those recordings...you'll need something similar. And don't forget the Marshall amp...that's a huge part of that tone too. Always is. 200 Watt modified Marshall Majors to boot (apparently they actually were around 250 watts when tested). Not exactly easy to find these days :D
But yes for early Deep Purple (barring the 335/Vox stuff), Lew is right vintage strat pups. For the Rainbow stuff, the Quarter pounds should do well.

I got great Blackmore tones (closest I've ever come) with the HS3 and YJM in the Malmsteen Strat.

Now he does,but he was a Marshall guy after using BF Fender and Vox amps..I have a video that shows Blackmore doing "Hush" through a BF Bassman head in the matching cab and using a red Gibson 335....His tone was warm and smooth and all Ritchie through that setup also..

There are photos of Ritchie using Vox amps on the "Perfect Strangers" album and "Machine Head" if memory isn't gone!

thanks for the input guys, but how in the world do i use a tube tape recorder as a pickup booster? i've never heard of tube tape recorders too. pardon my ignorance.
