They're both great.
The Engl has a tighter, more focused sound than the Rivera. Both have great gain. Engl is a touch more 'power metal'. Both have great clean channels.

I only own a Rivera head and my Engl is part of a rack setup, but you can check their website, www.rivera.com. i'm not sure if there are any clips on Engl's site, http://www.engl-amps.com/engl-amps/index.htm
