i am not the least bit knowledgable of rivera amps but i'm interested in the knucklehead series. from what I understand, some models have more gain than others, and that the riveras are not intended for metal. could someone please clear this up for me?

i play mostly 80's metal (poison, motley crue, whitesnake, skid row) as well as some modern metal. would this amp fit my needs , or would i have to stick pedals in ront of it to achieve the harder sounds. if i would need to stick pedals in front, which ones would would do the job nicely?

thanks in advance.

Re: rivera knucklehead series amps

Riveras came onto the amp scene as a Marshall alternative with a good clean channel and a slightly different high gain flavor (but Marshall-esque). Riveras are high enough gain for metal. Now, its not Recto/Randall/XXX/etc. modern high gain, but plenty of horse power. They are highly regarded amps, a friend of mine had a 212 years ago, and it was a stellar amp.

For 80s metal, it's fine. If you scoop the mids, it might get the modern high gain tones you're looking for.

The KH Reverb, KH2, and K-Tre all have plenty of gain for modern metal.

Exactly.

Some/most of the Rivera's have footswitchable boosts that kick in additonal gain stages if you really need "more".
