i gots a '60s tele ri that i want to turn into a heavy metal (but not as heavy as pantera), and punk axe. i'm more concerned with sound than output as i can always use the amp for gain and volume.

can someone rank for me in terms of volume the vintage stack, hot stack, hot rails, lil59, quarter pound, and stl-2 hot, all for the telecaster?

tia for any input

I would say look into the Hotrails. The Lil' 59 can do the heavy thing too!!

BTW: Welcome to the Duncan forum. It's a really great place!!

Hey man, welcome to the forum!

I would be looking at the Hotrails, and Lil 59 for the bridge for humbucker tones. However if you want to have that single coil bite I really liked my Quarter Pounds in my tele. They have a TON of beef! I consider them the quintessential hard rock tele SC.

For the neck you could stay vintage or go hot, depends on you. I had a neck QP as well, and it was nice, but VERY hot. (11.3K) Currently I'm using a 5/2. It sounds pretty good with OD, but still very much a tele pup.

If you are getting a new pickguard you could get a strat pup, or a full size bucker if you have the route.

For heavy metal, I'd go with Hot Rails or lil 59.

For raw rock and roll, IMO you can't do better than the QP. If you need a little more variety, the QP tapped set is great. My 50s RI tele is rocking a tapped QP set and it has great tone. BUT, it's not exactly a metal tone. I've got a Hot Rails in my other tele and it does the metal thing much better than the QP.
