i'm thinking of buying a rocktron retro digital short delay, mainly because the price is right. has anybody ever used one? is rocktron a good brand? i've never even heard of them before.

I have a Short Timer, and it does exactly what I want it to. As long as you don't need fancy stuff like presets, modulation, looping, or long delay times, it's great. The biggest downside is its size - it takes up 2 Boss pedals' worth of room on my pedalboard.
To my ears, it's better than a Boss DDL. Rocktron has intentionally made it lo fi/vintage sounding, which makes the original straight signal cut through a bit better. Squeeky-clean DDLs tend to bury the dry signal in repeats if you're not careful.
You can't argue with the price - I got mine slightly used for $25 on eBay, and since the seller lived in my town, he delivered it for free.
The best part is, it's big and green and reminds me of my first delay an MXR Analog, in about 1979.
Go for it.

I have a Roctron short timer delay, it sounds really warm and nice and adds a touch of reverb to the sound, its very pink floydish (dave gilmour) the short delay was all i was after so it suits me perfectly, it gives great depth to clean notes. I highly recommend it, just make sure you use a good adapter with it cos mine made alot of noise if i used the wrong adapter (batteries is fine).

ok, i'm sold!!! haha...now the hard part is waiting for paypal to clear and then another 2 weeks for it to get here
i also found a new dimebag darrell crybaby from hell wah for only $140 so i bought that too...man i'm going to be so broke for the next two weeks...i better quit :smokin:

I assume your talking about the "short timer" if so then it is an excelent pedal. It wont do very long delays like the name implies. Also if you put the regeneration knob too high it runs away on you and it delays forever and each delay gets louder and louder so be careful with it. But ingeneral its a great.

+1 on the lo-fi thing. Lo-fi is good for not cluttering up the dry signal. It's way too easy to lose the dry signal for me. I like the idea of getting a lo-fi analog version to keep things simple. Digitals have their place, but I'm feeling more and more like I don't want them in my signal path.
I'm bidding right now on a Arion SAD-1 just for this purpose. I want a warm and relatively "whooshy" analog delay that can oscillate if you dial it up enough. This model should fill the bill. It was used on Radioheads "The Bends" album to generate some of the UFO "whooshy" sounds on the title track's outro. Uses the old BBD technology. I've already bidded an obscene amount for it and it's nowhere near where it would top out at. Anyone who bids on it will merely drive up the price I have to pay...

Digideleays can be as lofi as those BBD ones nowadays
My analouge delays see no action these days, the only one that does not bug me is the Maxon AD-999, they made that one sound very good!

I got one of these used on eBay(bidding reached $41, but I still couldnt let it go)..new ones are quite cheap, at $60.
It has small problems like the popping sound when engaging it for the first time or using the Short/Shorter switch...but sounds real good..and if you turn the regen knob past 7-8 it goes WILD:fingersx:
I also have Silver Dragon, which is giving me some problems... but their customer support is pretty good, and they are replacing the piece without any fuss.
