Rode NT2-A mic

Based on the responses to my SoundRoom thread and other consultations, we purchased the NT2-A for the band. It arrived and tonight we recorded vocals for three songs. I think most of the tracks are keepers.

I can't give you a review like Adam, but I can provide feedback.

The clarity, response, and reproduction of the mic are very good. At one point, we inadvertently recorded part of a conversation several feet away and to the side of the mic. It was set for cardioid pattern.:saeek:

Yes, it should have been focused in front of the mic, but it still picked up the SIDE conversation.

My only complaint is that I couldn't cough between verses.

Allergies, and having to talk so much today at work had my voice a bit off. No, you can't even turn a page in a notebook.

We plan to record some guitar tracks with it as well. So far, I REALLY like this mic.

Like some of you who did so, I recommend this mic without reservation.

I've got the older NT2 and can confirm that they can be very sensitive indeed. There's a fair chance that what is being picked up of conversations to one side are actually room reflections. I've had mine running before and have been able to hear a TV a couple of rooms away (not on loud either) - the door was open at the time, but it still shows how sensitive they are. At this time of year, they become almost unusable due to the constant hum of a/c units being picked up.

I have a Rode NT2A (Rodent 2A ?) and I love it. I've used it for vocals, acoustic guitar and as a room mic for electric, with an SM57 on the speaker. I always run mine through my home-brew valve preamps, and the detail and clarity is superb. My setup is so sensitive that at my last house, I had to remove the battery from the clock way down at the other end of the house, because i could hear it being picked up by the mic. Sometimes I would put it out in the street to record various things ... starting my car, seagulls, Melbourne's New Years Eve firework display, dropping various items onto the concrete (all for building a sonic sample library), and i would ofter be surprised to hear other things in the background that my ears never heard at the time of recording.

It took a while to get used to recording acoustic guitar without my clothing or chair making noises that would be picked up.

At the time i bought it, it was a pretty big investment, so i'd done a lot of research on other mics in the same price range. I've never regretted my choice. The NT2A features a better capsule than all the other Rode mics except for the K2 (the K2 and NT2A both use this capsule).

Indeed, best one for the bucket.
Otherwise you should go 1 mega-step over: Neuman U87.
It's so sensitive that will record also whatever is behind, even in cardiod mode.
In my tests, tracks are quite well perfect. Maybe, you need to slightly drop EQ around 5 KHz but, that's all. Pristine, natural, quiet... it has it everything...
And, with the -12dB Pad you can even use it to mic your kick drum or any amp.
-A series are made in Australia, they aren't made in China.
