Roland GK-3

I bought an electric guitar off of eBay and, several weeks later, I was rummaging through the gig bag and found a used Roland GK-3. There was no mention of it in the seller's description and I don't even know if it works. Do folks still use these? I've read a lot about issues with mounting them and such. Is it worth giving it a shot or are they out-dated / low-quality? In checking values, it looks like it might be worth approximately $100 even if it doesn't work.

Thoughts? Feelings? Emotions? Concerns? Confessions? Rants? Rage-fests?

Re: Roland GK-3

Several generations of GK pickup exist. The housings change but the underlying functionality does not. They all still work. Reversible, non-destructive mounting is possible. Initial set-up is fairly involved but, once completed, should never need repeating for that instrument.

Proverbially, there is no such thing as a free lunch. In order to connect to any sound sources, the Roland GK pickup requires a special 13-pin umbilical cable. Next, you will need either a Guitar-to-MIDI Converter or a self-contained guitar synthesizer. (My choice is the Roland VG-99.) These items will require some serious investment in terms of both money and time.
