Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Re: Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Ha.. super close as usual ..SWEET little solo there too :bigthumb:

They're not a band who's stuff I'm familiar with though. I mean, yeah I've heard the odd song & LeTekro is pretty well regarded. It's a pretty decent song I will say :bigthumb:

Re: Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Haven't heard TNT in awhile...thanks for that!

Sounds like a great starting point again (FYI I really like the tone you got, I'm just referring more to the matching of the source material). Yours sounds a little thicker and slightly more modulated. With that said, your drums and whatnot may be influencing that as well (say vs your Boston one).

I love when you do these haha

Re: Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Man, set the Way Back machine. :)
Really good, especially considering you don't have a microtonal guitar ... or do you?!

Re: Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Tone request: Akira Takasaki, Crazy Nights. You're one of the few ppl I know of who can not only nail the tone but also Taksaki's impossible lead playing

Or In The Mirror.

Sounds great, a little too thick in the mids or something and needs more of that "80's sheen" on the top end, but awesome stuff. At least I think that's it...

I loved those guys back in the day, they are actually still around and I think Tony Harnell just rejoined them.

If it helps, he uses an old Boss OD-1 (crap, I know :boggled:) pushing his modded Marshall. His action is about 1/2" high at the 12th fret, it's insane...

Some glimpses here, I think I have his gear video downloaded around here somewhere.

LOL, pause this at 2:45 and you can see how insanely high his action is:

Re: Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Thanks - yeah I'm just doing the tone for a future "how-to" tone video; not going to do a whole song.

(EDIT) RE: LeTekro - I don't have a micro-tonal guitar like he has ("half-stepper"). I don't even know which tunes he uses that on.

(The gear I used is nothing fancy)

(EDIT) RE: Arika - I had a cassette of Thunder In The East when it came out... that's a really juicy rhythm tone he's got going on there.

I'll dig into it when I have time (prolly be a while) - have plenty of other projects going on ATM. We'll see!

Yeah saw that action - it's really high!

Along with the OD-1, another piece he used is the BOSS BF-2 Flanger, which he used in a simple, yet effective and unique way.

Here's some excerpts from my research on the internet regarding his tone:

"...there is a trick to this pedal that Ronnie Le Tekrø found out. If you set all the knobs to zero but max out the manual knob, you get this awesome midrange boost thing going on. Ronnie Le Tekrø left this thing on all the time with his Marshalls, and it helped give him that famous honking midrange that was very popular back then."

"I was doing a bit of research into Ronnie Le Tekro's tone and discovered that he gets his tone by the use of a Boss BF-2 flanger. He turns all the knobs to the left and he puts the manual knob all the way up to the right. You can hear a clear example of his tone if you listen to 10,000 Lovers in One by TNT. A guy has a video on youtube explaining which frequencies flangers cuts and boosts - I've tried using an EQ pedal and can get something similiar although it's not just there."

I did more digging and found the main freq the BF-2 (set the way Ronni does) boosts is... 800Hz.

Re: Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Oh yeah, forgot about the BF-2. Seriously, great job on the clip, your playing was right on!

I didn't know Akira used a micro-stepper guitar. I know Ronnie has used one at some point.

Thanks... the micro-stepper guitar comment I made was in regards to Ronni. Fixed.

Re: Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Yours sound better than his lol

I should listen to tnt - one of those bands where I dig the guitarist but not the vocalist and song writing too much

Re: Ronni LeTekro Tone (80's Viking Metal)

Nice job. great playing LLL. And good rendition of the tone.

I wore this cassette out BITD. I really liked that slow number on this album..might have been an instrumental. Cant recall.

ALways liked RLT's tone and style. He was obviously (at the time) influenced quite a bit bit by Gary Moore- lots of Gary licks in his solos. Similar to John Norum, but Ronnie was a bit more "weird" or "tricksie" /gollumvoice

I used to get that hollow near flange sound by turning down all the knobs to off on my DOD Flanger, or when I sold that, turning all the knobs off on my PH2.

Edit- ha! Just saw the quote about RLT and the flanger settings! I was an innovator! ;)
