Rosewood fretboard - getting that dark red color

I'm looking for a place to buy a Les Paul fretboard in rosewood that has that red color to it. As an example, check the last large picture on this page:

I've seen other Les Pauls with that deep red colored fretboard and I love it. I would rather not spend the money for the old growth rosewood like in the pic, and besides, I live in the US and can't buy one from that web page. Anybody know if I can take an East Indian rosewood board and stain it to get that deep reddish color? Anyone tried it?

I bought this board from a seller on the bay, went mostly brown when oiled

Yeah Rosewood varies a lot. When freshly oiled one of my prestige's boards is very red, and the other looks like ebony after oiling.
