Im in the process of building my 4th guitar and in the past ive use full 2 inch router bit for the body...now it that the best way or should i use a 1 inch bit with multiple passes?.....which method is best for less tearout threat
Depends entirely on the wood in question. Typically a spiral bit with double bearing allows for running down the grain on any location around the body. I would not go a full depth pass with anything less than an industrial quality router machine and bits designed for such operation.
I make bodies with maybe 5-10mm routed with each pass. And never more than say 1-2mm of wood requiring to be removed after bandsawing the rough shape.
Speed is also not always better slower. Again the wood type tends to determine this.....and I'm not just talking the species. Individual pieces behave differently and its best to experiment to see how the grain is behaving.
Yeah its to route the body shape, i just want to prevent tearout...i k ow a spiral bit would be good but they are crazy expensive...lol... ill just use my 2 inch one on my router table and go slow
