Routing for P-90s - Am I Crazy?

I have a Les Paul copy (Agile) that has humbuckers. I want to route for P-90s and refinish in goldtop (Re Ranch). The guitar has a carved top. Am I nuts for even attempting this route job? I found a template on Stew Mac but I am sure it was intedned to be used on a flat surface and not a carve one like I will be tackling.

Since I will be finishing in a solid color, I don't mind if I will need to do some ugly filling of holes and gaps.

Let me know if I am doomed to fail.

Rock on.

it would be alot easier for you to sell this guitar and get another agile with a gold top and P-90s

I'd just buy a set of Seymour duncan Phat Cats or sell it and buy a P90 guitar. I'm sure you could do it if you're patient and careful. Phat Cats will give you that P90 tone and they'll do it pretty painlessly. If you just are set on a goldtop w/ p90s (I can relate to that particular GAS), maybe look at an Epiphone.

Finish would be identical to my goldtop agile

I don't think it would look right. The P90 route is longer than the humbucker route, but the humbucker route is wider. Not to mention the fact that most P90's bolt directly to the wood instead of using mounting rings. A set of Phat Cats is the way to go, and the custom shop will wind them to any specs you like if you don't want the off the shelf model.
