rusty pole pieces

I am going to put a cover on my JB, and I will get new pole piece screws since they are rusty and I want them to blend in with the new nickel cover, but I was wondering: Does the rust on the slug poles negatively affect the pups performance to the extent where it is worth me sanding them, or will I just be scraping off mojo?

Thanks

Re: rusty pole pieces

I'd probably use a dremel tool tip or knife to clean up the slug poles. You'll probably have to replace the screw poles. Make sure the nickel cover you choose lines up with Duncans, because Gibson covers don't.
